Trail Conference Volunteers Clearing Storm-Blocked Trails in Area Parks

Volunteers with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference are hitting public trails in New York-New Jersey parks, helping park department staff clear downed trees and branches so trails can be enjoyed by the public. Volunteers are also documenting flooded and eroded trails and collecting trail problem reports in order to schedule future trail projects.

The Trail Conference has 55 certified chain-saw volunteers and 16 crews of experienced trail builders who respond to problems throughout the region. In addition, more than 1600 volunteers regularly monitor and maintain assigned sections on more than 1700 miles of trails.

Anyone who encounters significant problems on trails in the region--blowdowns, flooding, or erosion--is encouraged to report it so trail volunteers can schedule work. Go to www.nynjtc.org/webform/trail-problem-report.
